Categorization engine allows entities such as channels and media to be grouped by user-defined categories to facilitate more advanced filtering. The user needs to have appropriate permissions to view and modify categories as well as assign categories to different entities. Domain Admin has permission under all domain components including categories. Usually, the domain level menu is not visible for the user with project permissions. However, if the user has project permissions for categories, then the domain menu with the categories will be visible and available. A category can be created, deleted, renamed or moved between nodes also depending on user permissions .
To create a category, first you have to open the Categories page. In order to do that, select Categories from the domain menu. Creating categories depends on user’s project permissions.
This opens the Categories page. For every new domain, only the default category Media is listed.
Adding new category node:
In order to rename, change place in the tree or import category trees, category→Write checkbox has to be checked in Rolls→Username→Permissions.
Renaming a Category:
A user can also change the location of existing categories and category subtrees by dragging the selected subtree and dropping it to another location in the tree.
All changes you make will be permanent only if you press on save button.
To delete a category or category subtree, a user has to have permission ‘Delete’ checked for the category. All and Media nodes in Category tree view cannot be deleted. That is a privilege only for the custom categories and can be done by pressing on the ‘x’ button next to the category. The user must press Save in order for the changes to be permanent.
Category Export: You can export any selected Category node and all its sub-categories to an XML file.
Categories can be exported in two ways:
Export from selected category:
Export full tree:
Category Import: You can also import category trees from the XML file.
Categories can be imported in two ways:
Import at selected category:
Import full tree (replaces current tree)
NOTE: For all changes to be permanent, the user has to press Save.
Categories can be assigned to channels.
Assigning categories to channels:
More than one category can be assigned to one channel and the same category can be applied to multiple channel entities.
Searching channels by category:
The Channels list view will return a filtered search with the channel that matches the category selection.
Categories can be assigned to individual media. However, it can only be applied to media in Media Library (not from Playlist items or from Campaign’s Zone Playlist).
Assigning Category to an existing media:
Filtering the list of items by category:
Auto-Categorization of media is a very handy feature that enables filtering media items with similar characteristics. Media tags are all media descriptions incorporated in the file (metadata) such as the author, bitrate, bit depth, year published etc.
Auto-categorization is done in the media uploading process:
Fully auto-categorize | Select this option to create category tags associated with the media automatically. This means that in the category tree will be automatically added new categories emerged from the uploaded media tags. Also, those categories will be automatically assigned to this media. If the media contains no tags, then no Category will be added in the Media node. |
Partially auto-categorize | Select this option to assign Categories that match the media tags of the newly added media and are already in the category tree. This option will not create new Category in the tree under Media node. |
Don’t auto-categorize | Select this option if you want to only add the media to the Media Library and not create Categories based on media tags. No Category will be created and associated with the media. |
After choosing the wanted option, the media starts to upload in the Media Library.
